TreeBook App Reviews

Tree Book

I would have rated this book higher if the graphical images of tree branch ends could have been made larger. They are a bit small on the ipod screen. They would probably represent well on the iPad screen. The information is nicely documented though it may take a person a while to get on understanding the classification system if they have not studied biology before. Its a nice thing to have along when doing leisurely trail hikes due to being able to fit in an iPod in a pocket. Pretty compact. Very kind for it to be presented for free. Thanks for that.

Arborist review

Im an arborist in Manitoba, Canada, and find there are many species missing in the index. All in all, good for quick identification of common trees. For specifics in Canada, the app is lacking.....please update! Thanks

Many trees missing

Nothing more to type

silly cover

"OK I got a great idea. We’ll make an app about trees… then for the cover...find a picture of a double compound leaf, one that looks more like a fern” “But bruce, won’t people be confused, they might think it’s a app about ferns” “Hmm, You may be right mogly. Ok how about we put the words “TREE BOOK” under the leaf.” “Oh Brucey boy, you’ve done it again!!” --All kidding aside, thanks for the free app! I much appreciate what you’ve done!! :)

Awe - some!

SO easy to use! Having tried several other apps for leaf identification, this one actually helps you learn the process of identification as you move through it. My parents were both avid gardeners & naturalists, so I grew up learning to identify plants wherever we traveled or spent time outdoors. I love this app!!

A Great Beginner Tree ID App!

Ok, Im not giving the app the 5 star treatment simply because there are more exhaustive apps (which also cost more). They provide a universe of trees and shrubs but with minimal assistance. This is the best beginning tree identification app Ive found and for less than 2 bucks. It has a key (called IDENTIFY) that walks you through simple steps to find the most common trees in North America. It provides links thousands of photos online. A must for every beginner...

Perfect

For those of us who want something that introduces you to trees simply, helpfully, with beauty--I needed an app just this size. Thanks

Disappointing - few trees, poor classifications

Bought this based on positive reviews as a portable field guide for Cub Scout hikes. Database is very limited. Classifications are weak. No lookup based on standard leaf taxonomy (compound, alternate, untoothed, ovate). No silhouettes. Very disappointing.

Has potential

But way too few trees. If you live in Western US, dont bother.

Acceptable - marginally

A useful algorithm, but very limited database. Needs (many) more trees in the database, more leaf photos (rather than online links). Also would benefit from a better description of the process of characterizing leaves as pinnate, compound, palmate, etc... for those of us just getting started with tree identification.

Great Basic Tree ID

It has a hundred trees, as advertised, and it will identify them EASILY by their leaves, i.e. a "leaf key". Id be happier if it had more trees, as some common ones are missing, and Id like to see an ID key that works in the winter (no leaves), and it could use some more photos of the trees and their features (user submitted, maybe?). But its the best tree ID app Ive found for under $4 (disclaimer: I refuse to buy one over that price). I havent tried contacting the developer yet, but I will make some suggestions soon.

its basic, KISSes; its free

wanted something on the pod; this was available and suited pricing boundaries. Not like an Audobon Field Guide - so if thats whats expected - dont waste your MBs. Illustrations are drawings and somewhat simplified and db limited.

Good!

This is a great app for beginners to learn tree identification. The app is exactly what it says and the price is good--especially compared to other tree apps. More trees would be nice, and I could also suggest grouping trees by state or region. Otherwise great app!

Great!

Thank You! Very useful!

Awesome

Great knowledge to gain, all areas where the trees are found. Glosary is cool, if you like trees youll like this. Plus is F-ing free

Awesome app for the layman like me.

Awesome app for the layman like me. It needs many more trees, but I would guess that the time involved to do a single tree justice is large. I think that it will take time to grow, like a tree, but if the author takes the to tend the database, it will grow into something awesome, just like a tree.

Really well done

I had been admiring a tree growing in the parking lot at my drugstore. No one could tell me what it was and now I know!! This is ridiculously simple to use, concise and well-done. Kudos to the developers.

Useful, accurate, and easy to use.

Very good app.

Very Helpful

Easy interface, good info. Basic tree identifier. Could use a grouping by region and would also be helpful if it remembered your place when you leave and then come back, but on the whole, very good app for the price.

Nice start

I like the steps that the app uses to help identify the trees. It just need more trees added to the source.
